Supporting efforts to end gun violence

Trayvon Martin Foundation

The Trayvon Martin Foundation provides emotional and financial support to families that have lost a child to gun violence. It also offers scholarships for college and vocational or technical school, a medical mentorship program for young people who are interested in medicine or nursing, and summer S.T.E.M. and youth empowerment summits where students address social justice issues in their communities and schools while learning how to prepare for careers in science and technology.

The Trayvon Martin Foundation is a nonprofit organization established in March 2012 by Trayvon Martin’s parents, Sybrina Fulton and Tracy Martin, and Trayvon’s brother, Jahvaris Martin, to bring awareness to ending senseless gun violence.

By sharing their personal and powerful stories, they have encouraged diverse audiences—from college students and faculty and legal professionals to community and family organizations—to become more educated on ways to keep their loved ones safe and to empower themselves to become catalysts for social change.

The Trayvon Martin Foundation’s website was visually outdated and difficult to update and manage, and the organization hired All Things Creative to redesign the site.

The redesign would need to be completed in a short time. February 2022 marked Trayvon Martin’s 27th birthday and the 10th anniversary of his death. To celebrate his life,  the foundation planned to host two special events that month—its annual Remembrance Dinner and Champion for Justice Awards, which would raise funds to support the foundation’s programs, and its annual Peace Walk and Peace Talk in Miami.

The foundation expected that the 10th anniversary of Trayvon Martin’s death would attract significant national and local media attention, and in anticipation of the event, it wanted its new website to be ready.

We completed the website redesign in just two and a half months and met the foundation’s deadline.

We worked closely with the foundation to develop a design concept for the 15-page website that reflected their vision. Using content that the foundation provided and we copyedited, we then built the site and launched it in early February.

The foundation not only wanted a visual update for the site but also needed an easy way to update the site’s content and add information about upcoming events and new initiatives. We selected the WordPress Content Management System and, in the weeks following the launch, provided training to the enable the foundation’s staff to upload, edit, and publish content to its new website.

As the foundation had anticipated, the 10th anniversary of Trayvon Martin’s death drew much attention. The New York Times, The Washington Post, The Guardian, CNN, ABC News, CBS News, MSNBC, and many other news outlets marked the event in February 2022. We were honored to be able to ensure that the Trayvon Martin Foundation’s new website was up and running and ready for the occasion.
